Bedding for run?

Currently I have a prefab coop for my 5 buff Orpington and 3 EE pullets. Right now there’s tractor supply shavings in the coop and run. I would like something with a more sandy texture for the run so they can dust bath, but nothing that will heat up and hurt their feet. Any suggestions?

That may be too small for that many birds.....
...but they will dig there own dust bath in the ground.
You could help them out by digging up a shoveful or two to get it started.

I have hardware cloth under it, so I can’t dig down in it.

I usually just let them out to free range, but I want to make sure they’re comfortable if I leave them in the run.
