Quote:mstricer (of BYC)You can read the whole threads here, and yes people do say it's OK, but I think those people didn't seem to read labels and care: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/591258/sevin-dustQuote:foxypoproxy (of BYC)
I use to use Sevin Dust (on the chicken and in the bedding) and never had an issue, but after doing some research on how bad the pesticide is, i would rather not take my chances.
It says on the back that it should not be used on animals, why do you think that is?
In the long run, i do not doubt it can cause some serious issues.
If its not safe for us, i don't know why it would be ok to use on them.
Now, I use a dust specifically for poultry and it works just as good AND it is safe and made for animals.
This is just my opinion.
Like i said, i never SAW any side effects...but i also don't want to wait around till something does finally happen

Anyways, it's a personal choice, and I have chosen to stay away from it.
I can assure you that I have read the label and I *do* care. I mean this in the nicest way possible, but what would you suggest to the person that has a critically ill bird covered in mites and lice? Had to dust some pretty sick birds with it or poultry dust and have seen no ill effects from doing it.
I tried DE, it doesn't work. Wood ash is out in the yard, but not because I think it will work, I'm just too cheap to pay to take it to trash, besides, the chickens seem to like it.
