My first chicks are here!:ya

Went to pick up my order from Meyer today and totally got suckered into the $2 bin babies

Along with my bargain “hatchery pick” chicks, that should leave 10 in my order I am working on identifying.

I started by taking out the ones I could identify from the known breeds I ordered and that left me with these 11.

The chicks I ordered specifically would be Easter Egger, Dominique, Barnvelder, Golden comet, and buckeye.

Here are the mug shots with my guesses:

Feathered feet #1 (Cochin?)

Feathered feet #2 (Cochin or Brahma?)

#3 (Egyptian fayoumi)

#4 (Frost white legbar, would be very exciting if I’m right because they sell for $55!)

#5 (Blue or Lavender Orpington)

#6 (???)

#7 (This guy had a yellow leg band which means it should be a partridge penedesenca or a swedish flower. I’m thinking partridge)

#8 (This was my Meyers “meal maker” freebie, pretty sure)

#9 (Sicilian buttercup but I hope not...)

#10 (I think this guy might actually be a golden comet)

And apparently I forgot to take a picture of #11  I think she was the one with the stripes down her back closest to the lower left hand corner.

What do you all think? Thanks for any input!

Thank you! They are very pretty but yeah, living in Ohio means the lack of cold hardiness and the fact that they don’t take confinement well concern me. I’ve also heard they are flighty. Oh well, we’ll see!

I had never read or known anything about Buttercups, but my daughters loved the speckled heads, so I let them each get one. I couldn't be happier and wish I had gotten more!
I had bantam Cochins years ago and loved how docile they were. These hens are so much more than docile! They are alert, inquisitive and, actually affectionate!
