Black Copper Marans

Oh I see

I think what they mean by high quality eggs but not high quality chickens is they are breeding for dark eggs only, not looking for show quality, or close as possible to the standard on weight, size, feathered shanks, eye color, combs with no sprigs, correct number of points, coppering on the breast, correct shank color, no copper hackles at all, or mahogany instead of copper, bad temperament, squirrel tail, wry tails, yellow legs, gold bleeding in the hackles, fused toes, stuff like that. Those are all commoon problems in marans, and if you concentrate too hard on just egg color, you might end up with some or all of the above in your flock, especially if you buy from hatcheries or breeders that don't know the genetic background of what their flock is.
