I have Two blue birchen roosters, ones black a ones blue. Which one has More dominant genes? A would both produce different colors if I bred with a black birchen hen? I’m new to this thank y’all for all the help.

By breeding your blue cock to your black hen you'll get 50:50 black and blue offspring. By breeding your black cock to your black hen you'll get 100% black offspring. Here's a short explanation how this works:

Blue has one blue and one black gene
Black has two black genes
Splash has two blue genes

So the colour blue is incomplete dominant and "dilutes" black when one copy of the gene is present.

Here's possible pairings and their offspring statistically:

Black x Black = 100% Black
Black x Blue = 50% Black, 50% Blue
Blue x Blue = 25% Black, 50% Blue, 25% Splash
Black x Splash = 100% Blue
Blue x Splash = 50% Blue, 50% Splash
Splash x Splash = 100% Splash

Thanks for explaining this so well! It's an older thread, but @interior_ocean What is meant by "incomplete" in incomplete dominant?

What is meant by "incomplete" in incomplete dominant?

The 'incomplete' in incomplete dominance means that having only one copy of the gene gives only a partial expression of its trait. So with blue as an example, one copy of the blue gene dilutes the black pigment in plumage to a blue-gray color. With two copies of the gene, black pigment is diluted further to a grayish white color with blue flecks.

Thank you! That makes perfect sense now.
