My broody hen hatched two chicks just over a week ago and one of them is feathering out as a splash.
How does this happen? The chick's mom is a Hatchery blue Cochin and dad is a Austrolorp.

Thank you,

F.V.

Blue birds will feather out with white wing tips and have other white markings until they molt out of them in adolescence. You may just have a light blue.

Genetically speaking, it is impossible to get splash from a blue to black mating. You would expect roughly 1/2 blue and 1/2 black.

Any photos of this chick?
