I have seen those wonderful lacings in some events and wanted to start getting some. However none of them have books available and I surfed the internet to fine FREE beginner's instructions on lace making and needle tatting.

Does anyone do this project and where the link for instructions of starting to lace, etc. And what kind of stand or loom you prefer, pros and cons and type of lacings I should try first.

I know Ebay got them but they were a little pricey or out of USA.

I hope it is not difficult, I can cross stitch or make any stitch on cloth....and I do Civil war reenacting so this would be a fun project to do!

I had a friend who did both needle and shuttle tatting. She said it was easy once you get the hang of it. We used to have a tatting society here in Memphis but not any longer. Next time I see Mary Ann I will ask her if she knows what is the best way to get started.

I am always running across ld lace at flea markets here (someitmes bobbins etc too)
...anyway...here are two groups which should be able to help you wiht the info you are seeking on bobbinlace:

you have to click on the > button at the bottom of each page to continue on to the next. (I would also join those two groups and then use the search function to find threads)

I do not know how much the bobbins are...I have never enquired but I have often seen them. If you want the antique ones then go look on the U.K. ebay... should be lots there ...

This is a neat link to instructions for needletatting.
I am a little bit "special" when it comes to shuttle tatting and enjoyed the needle tatting much more.
