Hello everyone. It's my first time raising baby chicks and I'm just super interested to know what breeds my two little babies are. These chicks were part of a hatching program that my work did where we got to watch the eggs hatch.

The little yellow guy here is Lucky, hatched on November 1st, the first image shows Lucky at half a week old. Yellow all over.

Here's a side on view of Lucky now at 25 days old.

Next up we have Cookie. Cookie hatched the day after Lucky, Cookie and 2 other black chicken siblings came from white eggs. Cookie hatched all black except for a yellow bottom, a white bit on her throat and a browny patch over her left eye. This is Cookie at a week old, the lady who gave us the eggs said Cookie is an Australorp?? Can Australorps have brown in their feathers?

This next image shows Cookie a week ago on November 18, at 17 days old, it shows her comb which is still the same size. You can also see some brown highlights developing in her feathers.

And this picture shows the brown specks/highlights in Cookie's feathers. They go around the front of her neck too.

Cookie is a mixed breed. Austrolorps are solid black. They produce brown eggs, not white. The first chick could also be a mix. Any idea what breeds the lady has in her flock? Unless she keeps the breeds separate the offspring will be mixes.

Australorp, New Hampshire, Leghorn, and Lohmann. They're from a program called Henny Penny Hatching, these are the breeds listed on the website.

Not really sure on breed, I agree that Cookie is probably a mix. Based on the birds she has in her flock she is probably mixed with New Hampshire or Lohmann and Australorp. This is what gives her the black color mixed with brownish red. This doesn't explain how she came out of a white egg though. Maybe Leghorn is some how mixed in there too? Lucky looks like she is mainly Leghorn. Very cute chicks and great pictures. Hope this helps a little good luck:)
