Broken Bill Emergency

I found our little Dory covered in blood this morning with the other ducks fine. I’ve cleaned her up and the blood seems to have been from her bill only. Is this DIY or emergency vet territory?

Can you tell if the bill is broken or if it's just skinned, do you see it cracked?

What happened to Dorys crest looks like feathers have been plucked out. Can you get us some better pictures of her bill please? Do you think this was a predator attack or a drake attack?

I’d def put something on that. Sorry pics came up after I asked for them having internet trouble here. How deep is the wound on her bill? Do you think something tried to pull her through fencing kind of makes me think that by seeing her wound and crest. Maybe some triple antibiotic washed real good first if you haven’ t already. If you feel it’s serious enough for a vet then by all means take her. Is the bill intact?

I cleaned it and saw that it was the bill still bleeding. I put stop on it and my again vet will she her this afternoon. No drake at the moment and they were I. Their coop within the run which were unbroken. No one else is injured but I did find her behind a bail of straw. I wonder if she was stuck and panicking. Maybe spooked the others? What else can I do for her.

Good glad your going to get her in to the vet. She may have gotten stuck and panicked. For now just keep her quiet and you can offer her food an water but she maybe in pain so the vet can help out there too. Let us know how she is please.

They are amazing how well they can heal. It will just take a while.

Yes I think it is all there except the skinned bit. My poor sweet heart she lost a lot of blood drank some water and is resting.

Bless her heart, that’s good she drank and you might try a soupy mush of her feed to help her be able to eat. When ever you feel she might try eating.
