Brooder lamps?

I used an 85 or 100 watt "PAR38" (landscape type) flood lamp (red) bulb. I bought it at Home Depot and it worked really well. I hung it from a string so that I could raise it or lower it to get the right temp in the brooder.

When my girls were just little ones (sniff, sniff) I used a 100 watt lightbulb and kept a $1 thermometer in the box. The light was enough to keep it warm enough, but I had 5 chicks in a box about 3x3x3. Then I repositioned the light to cool it off, then ended up using a smaller wattage to get the temp right as the weeks went by. However, when they got older, I tried using a plain bulb 24/7 to keep the chill off in their coop, and they started picking on eachother, like. making eachother bleed. So, I switched to a 250W red lamp and they got along famously again. MM
