Brooding Hens

I want at one-two of my hens to brood on a few eggs....yes I have a rooster but they don't seem to get it yet. Two hens start to brood, but then the one leaves to roost at night with the other chickens. The other just gets up and leaves but comes back. Should I wait until they are a little more experienced and older to brood? They're about five or four months old.

I never give eggs to a broody hen until she has spent at least one night on the nest.
