I have 8 bantams consisting of three Speckled Sussex hens and one roo (hatched 2/27/23), and four Dominique pullets (hatched 4/12/23). Two of the Sussex have already gone broody three times.
My hoop coop is 16'x8' (128 sq ft.) and my flock stays contained within. The next time one of my hens goes broody I want to allow them to hatch the eggs, and do so in the coop.
I have been searching here for how others have handled a broody hatching chicks within a flock's living area. Most of what I have read refers to flocks that free-range, and I have not seen anyone else doing it within a hoop coop. Some members said "Do it, worked for me!" while others said "No! The flock killed my chicks!" or something similar.
Have you had a broody hatch chicks within a coop/run? A hoop coop?
If so, what worked? What didn't?
If you have any input on this or can steer me to more information I would appreciate it.
