Never heard that term before. Can you explain what a hoar frost is? :)
This:
It's basically just regular frost, but when it's more humid out it can grow long spikes. It just has to be very calm so that the spikes don't break off. The one I took a pic of was shorter than usual but it was still cool.

I have other pics of it where the spikes are longer, I'll have to see if I can find them on my laptop.
