I received my Cackle Hatchery chicks today! All are doing well! 8 Lavender Ameracaunas & 6 Biefenhelder pullets.
I ordered 10 Jungle Fowl, but there was a short hatch and now they are all sold-out.

But I am really happy to finally have my own chickens. The 30 chickens we we already have are technically my husband's chickens. The 6 biefenhelder pullets are his. So 36 chickens.

The 8 Lavender Ameracaunas are mine!
What advice do you have for marking chicks? I have 2 cockerels and currently they are marked with something that looks like orange cheetos around their mouth. But I want a more permanent solution.

Curious, did your tracking include the jungle fowl or did you find out on arrival? Were any extras included on arrival?

My cackle chicks arrived today too. 12 Hatched yesterday—I received two extras. 4 black laced golden Wyandottes, 6 black ameracunas (2 Roos) and 4 black copper marans (1 roo). Roos have a little paint of some sort on their chins. Two were a little slipuggish, but they’re drinking, eating and had a brief nap under the plate.

their food (scratch & peck starter) looks a bit chunky, so I soaked some and my boy is picking up some grit on the way home.

Did you order males? Do you plan on separeting the breeds?

Yes, I ordered 3 males. I don’t want to do this again, I’d rather a broody raise them 😉 The plan *ahem* is to cull one or two Roos, picking the best one. I have 5 hens, maybe 2 Roos is ok with 16 hens, providing they all survive. I’m not planning on separating, just going to let nature take its course and eat the excess.

I just got my babies yesterday from crackle!! I love them so much(the birds and the hatchery)
