pro series circulated air incubator model 4200. We took it apart these morning allowed it to dry out some . Plugged back in and put 1 cup of water. Temp at 100 and humidity went back to 80 please help.

humidity is based on surface area. The amount of water has no real affect. Try to find out how to add water with out increasing the surface area. (some incubators have water channels so you can fill one channel and the rest stay dry). Try getting the humidity down to 35-45 then check the air cells during incubation and adjust the humidity based on the air cell size.

What do you mean about surface area. It's right next to the other one. That ones correct. These one you pour water into the bottom. But it didn't matter if we had 6 cups or 1 cup or a few drops of water it will not come down.we tried up plugging it letting it air dry. Putting all eggs in one incubator tell we can get a handle on situation .

Say you take that cup of water and put the whole cup in the incubator-it's a cup of water, but it's deep. You take that same cup of water and put it in a shallow but wide bowl. The surface area of the bowl is much larger than the cup, therefore even if both containers hold one cup your humidity is going to be higher with the water in the bowl than in the cup because the bowl provides more surface area.

Try emptying and drying out the bator and running it dry-without any water at all. If you are NOT in lockdown with that bator and you are NOT in a high elevation and the bator stays above 25% humidity, try incubating with it dry the first 17 days and then add the humidity for lockdown if you are hatching in the same bator. (Providing that the hygrometer you are using is accurate.) You can check your air cells when you candle to make sure they are growing at the right rate. If the bator doesn't hold enough humidity when it's completely dry. Get a clean/unused sponge wet it and set it in the incubator instead of putting water in the wells. That should give you a decent amount of humidity and when it starts going lower rewet the sponge.
