I posted yesterday about a croaky-sounding rooster (who sounds more normal today), and today I have heard a couple of my hens make sounds like coughing?! Can chickens cough? What might be up with my flock? They have a spacious, well-ventilated, dry coop and spend most of their time free ranging on grass and in forest. Coop windows are wide open to breezes. Egg production is way down, but we recently introduced a group of 14-week-old pullets (who we got as 2-day-old chicks and raised indoors... had no illness evident among those), and I am making big changes to their covered run, so lots of tools and noise and disruption. I don’t find low production hard to believe for those reasons. Everyone seems happy, energetic, hungry, curious ... just the usual. But with coughing. Any ideas and advice?
