I have chicks about 5 weeks old that are being moved to a larger space today. Sometime yesterday they started getting antsy or something and started pecking at their backs. I can only guess that this was a space or boredom issue and am remedying that today. I need to know if I should use that triple antibiotic stuff that is over the counter but safe for chickens or should I use Blu Kote?

I want to treat it for possible infection but also to prevent them from continuing this in their new spot.

If there are bare spots or scabs that you want to cover then you can use the blu-kote to help prevent further pecking. If the pecking spots are not really visible then the ointment would be fine. They both have antiseptic properties and should be safe on 5 week olds.

Blu-Kote has gengian violet an antiseptic/antifungal and alchohol, plus the blue color disquises red areas to prevent pecking. It is safe for all chicks.
