Can sand be used for dust-baths?

I have heard that just sand can't be used for dust-baths.

It doesn't clean them well enough like dirt or dirt mixed with sand does.

Does anybody know if this is correct or?

And yeah, some sort of source is always nice

Well can you mix it with dirt, if it's not a problem, just do it I guess.

But sand works, and it's also beneficial to sprinkle a layer of diatomaceous earth and/or wood ash.

I use chinchilla dust bathing sand for my quails they love it ! X

I mix sand with DE. Works great - quail love it.

It depends on what I have laying around at the time. Sometimes I use just sand others just DE or mix sand and DE.
