Can you keep a single emu?

I realize you can keep an emu alone, but can they live happily this way? Can they get their companionship from other animals and humans?

I use to raise Emu's back in the Emu craze days. They can be raise by themselves but are much more docile and happy with their own kind. If none others are available they will bond with whatever other animal is available. I had one that bonded with one of my horses, eventhough it had it's own kind to be with... was really fun to watch them pal around.
