Caught a 6ft snake eating my chicken!

1/2" Hardware cloth around your coop vents and runs will protect your flock ,eggs and chicks too. Don't rely on chicken wire to protect your eggs and chicks. The holes are too big and the wire stretches. It also isn't heavy enough gauge.

So sorry for your loss. I do keep night lights on in my coops. Only once did I find a rat snake in a coop and I immediately got it out. I have had a couple of snakes try to go through the fence but got electrocuted when they touched the electric wires that go around the coops and pens. Good luck...
This was a snake attempting to get into the chick/grow-out coop minus it's head.

Not funny, I was completely serious.

and yes, the chickens willeat it too - they've eaten the other snakes I dispatched - but I don't recommend giving it to them after braising in bar b q, or smoking, for that matter.
I once killed a snake that was in the chicken run, put it in front of them and not one of them was interested in eating it.
