Really annoying but my 1 year old bantam hen has started pecking her own poop, not really eating it completely but she does eat some. I’ve already ruled out some kind of nutrients deficiency since this was a learned trait she got during a time where she wasn’t passing eggs with shells. She would lay these shellless eggs at random just on the ground and realized it was, well, egg and eat it. After this, which is long passed, she always checks her poop to see if it’s egg!!! I don’t know how to untrain her from this and I’m worried about her getting sick from testing her poop all the time to see if it’s food 😭 you’d think she’d get the hint by now but she’s only a chicken. Any help is appreciated

Is she free range or do you supply grit? She may be 'sifting' through her feces for bits of grit. I've seen birds do this.
