Chicken has a red and irritated back, please help!!

She has had it for about 2 months, but she continues to act normal. her feathers seem to be growing in, but then they aren't.

She probably won't grow new feathers in until her next big molt which would be in the fall if you're in the Northern Hemisphere. You might consider getting her a hen saddle if you're worried about more feather plucking or sun exposure.

Chickens molt in Cycles, and their feathers don't grow constantly like mammal hair does. I've had chickens with the same condition for over half a year, but as soon as their feathers grew back after their annual molting they were just fine again.

I am out there consistently and the others tend to leave her alone unless she gets sassy toward the older ones. even that is pretty rare.

I am pretty sure that it is sunburn, but dont know how to treat it?

Others have started their 9 month molt, but she is a bit younger so mabey 1 more month until her big molt.

Just not sure if anybody has any tips on treating sunburn, or if there is a product that will work best.

Blu-kote is often used for preventing chickens from pecking each other's wounds, however it should also provide sun protection. Discouraging pecking is just an added bonus in this case!
