Last night when my girls were going to bed I notice when they got in the coop one drop a round sack like slimy substance and the rest of the chickens started eating it. What was this and is this normal?

Welcome to BYC!

It sounds like a soft shell or shell-less egg. Are your girls fairly new to laying? Sometimes their "plumbing" needs to mature. Sometimes it will happen even once the chickens get a bit older, maybe due to a lack of calcium or because they are stressed.

If you aren't already, keep some crushed oyster shell out for them to eat whenever they want it. I find my girls eat more of it when it's closer to their other food and water.

Thanks for joining us! Good luck with your flock.
