I noticed that one of my hens has a limp today. When she walks, she swings her lame leg around and almost hops around. When I inspected her, I noticed that it felt like her leg was sticking out at the hip a little. One side of her hip is smooth and normal, and the side with the lame leg feels like it has a bump where the leg would go into the hip. Could this be a broken or dislocated leg?

Yeah, there's a vet I can take her to tomorrow morning. For now, she's separated from the others in a cage with lots of straw for her to sit on. However, despite her injury, she was able to jump onto the nesting boxes, which are set about a foot or two off the ground. I'm suprised that she could jump so high with an injured leg.

It turns out that it's just a hematoma. It should go away on its own after a while. Nothing is dislocated, broken, or infected. I'm still gonna keep her separated from the others for a while so I can monitor her.
