Chickens and duck pond

Does anyone have advice on chickens and duck ponds? I just found one of my pullets drowned. I'm pretty sad. She had just started laying and I had been pretty excited about the pond I just made out of an old bathtub.

Chickens can't swim. Or if she could reach the bottom maybe when wet she couldn't get out and she collapsed from fatique. Or maybe a duck pushed her around until she got tired and drowned.

I use a plastic clamshell kiddie pool, works great, easy to clean/empty and refill because the ducks get it really dirty really quickly. I have little steps to help them up, but the chooks never go in, so I'm guessing the duck maybe pushed it in
