Do I have to trim backyard chicken wings so they don't fly?

I read not to trim till they are over a year & only one wing. My oldest are only 9wks old & the little bantams did fly over our small fence of their yard for a few weeks. They hadn't done it in a while until last evening & my dog trapped Puck as he was trying to figure out how to get back in his yard. Luckily he wasn't harmed.
