For some reason, my hens have started pulling all of their nesting materials out of the nest and scattering the eggs around the coop. Any ideas why in the world they would be doing this? I have tried straw, wood shavings and shredded news paper, all scattered out.

Do you have a lip on the bottom of your nest to hold the bedding and eggs in? Mine are about 5 or 6 inches high.

I have about a 4 inch lip to keep enerything in the nests. They still kick everything out. This continues to happen, they still lay eggs in there, but I find some outside the nest box, depends on how quickly I get to them. But every last bit of the bedding comes out every time I fill it up.

My chickens always pull out all of thier straw. Not the eggs though. Weird.
