I am moving my 2 month old chicks into my coop with my hens. I have heard that it is harmful for chicks to eat oyster shells. I have seen the chicks eating them a few times. is this bad or is it only if they eat a lot? How do I keep the chicks from eating the oyster shells while still allowing the hens to get to them?

Do you give them oyster shell prior laying it wait until after an egg has been discovered? Mine are 12-13 weeks and I just put golf balls in the nest as I notice they are being explores.

They will peck at them a little...no worries. They won't eat too many.
