Chicks ripped apart. Hen eating her young?

She's eating them!
Don't let her sit eggs again.
If she were my hen, her next stop would be in a great pot of Louisiana style chicken and okra gumbo!

I have always left my hens and chicks with the rooster and rest of the flock without a problem. I have a 6 year old hen named Caramel who has raised chicks successfully before, but her %age was always low with only 1 or 2 chicks successfully hatching each time. This time she had 10 eggs and we didn't realize she was eating them until they were almost all gone. After 8 of them were gone, my 6 year old daughter rescued the 2 left claiming she saw Caramel trying to eat them and one of them was peeping. I didn't believe it so I brought the eggs back, and immediately saw her attack the peeping egg. Fortunately, we were able to get it out of the egg and treat its injury. Now we have one chick that we are raising in our house without a flock to mingle. We are considering eating Caramel.
