Just butchered my first birds ever!


2 quail males (supposed to have a female too, but she flew the coop)

Carcass weights were 4.4 oz and 3.9 oz, and the birds were 7 months old. Ues, I know that's way longer than it should, but i had to get my courage up.

we butchered a few roosters for a friend today... and he talked me out of a turkey... very happy with my 7 month old rooster carcass! I forgot to take pics

3rd quail done, a hen and she was the biggest of the three at 4.6 oz after cleaning.

I didn't slaughter any birds this year, first time in 6 years.
Sure didn't miss the work, but sure wish I had a few carcasses in the freezer.

I don't know yet. We only had three, so we have to wait for a day when someone isn't home to cook them. They're skinned so well probably bake them

Little more game like. Stronger tasting. Not quite as strong as wild duck. Close to domestic duck. Similar to dove.

No, they don't taste like backyard chicken, but close. Taste nothing like store bought chicken.

Cook just like chicken. Soup, stew, laid on a bed of rice or vegetables and roasted, fried, rotisserie or boiled. Gumbo, etoufee, couvion, sauce piquant or whatever you desire.

Or breast them. Put a piece of cheese in a jalapeno pepper, pound the breast meat flat and layer it with bacon as you wrap this around the pepper and BBQ until as done as you like. Quail poppers are great!
