Here in south east Texas the temperatures can get well above 100 degrees sometimes in the Summer. I do my best to break the pinnacle of the day heat by bringing my chickies pans of cold fruit, and replacing the inner water bottles I place into their main water bucket with frozen bottles. I also mist them down, whether they like it or not! This seems to do the trick, and they all act appreciative, by flapping their wings, and then fluttering around in their cool sand box. I moved EVERYTHING into the coolest part of the coop run, and placed a fan toward their food and water buckets too. I realize that not everyone can do this, if they have a very large flock. I only have seven birds, but am doing the best I can.

I give mine blocks of ice, so they can drink cold water, but I love your idea of putting the ice in the waterer! I sometimes put fruit in the ice blocks, too.

I also give cold fruit, and tried to mist them a few times, but they don't seem to enjoy mist. 🤷‍♀️

They do like cool dirt, so I make sure their dustbath holes are free of debris.

Side note. My husband asked me what I was writing on the "Chicken Board." After I read the paragraph that I'd written to him, he added in his old geophysicist way, "I'm now teaching them differential equations, and now I believe they're about to take over the world!" He DOES have quite a sense of humor! :D

Nice! I like the idea of fruit in ice cubes!:D
