you could just open up a long rectangle a few inches under the roof line, and then save the piece that's cut out, top hinge it, and prop it open for ventilation.
I thought about doing it that way, but I think I'll be better off putting real overhangs on.

Just make sure they're heavy enough or somewhat sunk in that they can't "lift" them by digging around the edge
They're big 24"x24"x2" stones. Guess I'll give them a try, I can't see why it would be any different then a mesh skirt

The difference is that digging predators can figure out how to back up and dig at the edge of a solid barrier (though there is a limit of how far some diggers will tunnel, which is different for different predators). They can't figure out how to back up and dig under a wire skirt under the grass/mulch because they don't understand why the ground is undiggable there. :)

Ah, that's fair. So the stones would also need to be buried and/or covered by something to be effective.

Definitely doing both. I tried to make due with what I had but this time I'm going to do it the way I should have.

I really like that overhang. How far out does it go? And how far down do your braces go on the building?
Sorry, I missed your reply. I went and grabbed some pics. Let me know if you want anything else.

The length and angles of these cuts were rather random. I picked something and cut them all the same.

I used these to put things together.

I'll post the other Simpson tie when I get to my computer.

Found them. Home Depot I find to be cheaper on theses than Lowes anyway, so let's switch to there.

The roof joists are attached with hurricane ties:

The cross piece and overhang is attached with Ridge Rafter Connectors.

I tried to just use the connectors but the overhang had way too much 'bounce' to is, to I added the supports back to the wall.

NOTE: I AM NOT AN ENGINEER. This is the first 'thing' I ever built. It's held up for about 4 months with no problems ... but that's no gurranttee it's done properly. Do you own due dilligence!
