Coop Project: Maken the Plunge & Getting Chickens

Pics
When all the work was done at the end of the day...I was tired, hot and sweaty. So I took a glass of iced tea and went down in the backyard to lay on the grass in the shade. I dosed for....??? I don't know how long....when something pecked me. I woke up, looked next to me and there was the flock.

My wife snapped several photos from the deck. Here is one....

It was the perfect end to a long day.

Very cool Coop design looking forward to seeing it done. You will like the buffs we have a few here on our small farm. Has well has the ducks we have a good size flock of ducks to We also have Geese with our ducks we use the geese has a type of watch dog for our ducks but our drake is very vocal and most likely would pester neighbors. I would like to share with you my past experience with the bedding you chose, The ink in the newspaper can be toxic to many animals and birds with our babies I used hay, I think my sister uses pine shavings on her farm.

Enjoy your new chicks and the benefit of fresh eggs hope to hear more about your new flock.

Its been great...the chicks are out of the house (their Brooder) and in their Coop. The last few days have been very good, nice and easy. I put the chickens in at about sunset each evening, I top off their feeders and take care of their waterers. Then the next day all I do is let them out for their daty of feeding and foraging.

I let only the ducks out on Monday, because of the wet rainy conditions. The ducks had a great time playing in the rain and roaming the yard. The chickens spent the day in the coop and by the sounds of it were irritated to say the least.

I am loving this new coop.

Once we get the coop moved into it's final position, I'll be able to build the run and then clean up my Contruction Project mess on the back patio.

I'm wanting to get a good start on the run this weekend, but they are calling for rain on both Friday and Saturday...Dang, I hate working in the rain.

My daughter and her fiance are going to set the last railroad tie for me tomorrow and then we'll move the coop to its final location.

Strangest thing today....I went out to let the girls out of the coop; they would not come out. They were all sitting on the roost and the ducks were huddled next to each other in the corner. I had to take each one out by hand. I left the door to the pop-out hole open for them to gat back in if they need to.

All week I would open the coop and they would come flying out of the coop and hit the yard running...cloudy and overcaste today...maybe that has something to do with it???

I could not decide what type of roof to put on the coop...whether I would go with Shingles or something else. In the end my dad was the final influence...he brought over a roll of Ice & Water Shield. It took me a few days...but I installed the this material yesterday.

We put out some leftovers for the Pullets and the Ducks. Sophie found it...she seems to get along with the Pullets, But when they come in and take her food, I've seen growl at them. I wonder what she's going to do when they are full grown?
