Creating a border

I want to make it where my silky chickens cannot get onto the patio and stay only in the grass (because they make a mess on the patio). My dream is to have them stay in the courtyard grass with a nice (no run) coop and they will free range out there. So I am asking for any possible suggestions for keeping my chickens on the grass?! All ideas are appreciated! Thank you!

The only thing that works is a fence.

You just want to block off the concrete in a straight line from the edge of the coop? How about just some ornamental fence, with silkies would only need the fence to be about two feet high, could put a flower or herb garden behind it against the patio? You could also just make a couple of short movable fence panels (or get something like an exercise pen for dogs) and use that to block off the patio when they chickens are out but be able to open it back up if you need to.
