I beleive that crete is a french word meaning the red part on the chicken's head.

Crete = Comb? In general, the height/size of a chickens comb can give you an idea of the age or maturity of the chicken but it can't tell you the exact age of the chicken. While the comb will get bigger as the chicken gets older, it also depends on the genetics of the individual chicken and the type of comb, and whether it is a male or female. For example, a chicken with a peacomb will never have near the comb that a chicken with a single comb has.
