Look for a hidden nest - they can be very cleverly concealed. And it usually starts just like you described - a few less eggs - well that happens, and then suddenly no eggs at all. When that happens it has always been a hidden nest for me.

I haven't found any hidden nests and I cleaned the coop. There weren't any buried eggs or membranes of shell-less. I don't think they're eating eggs, but I'm gonna put a fake one with food coloring and dish soap to find out for sure.

Oh! Why didn't I think of this?! I'm still going to put the dish-soap-filled egg in there, but I just realized, all four of my girls have bare backs from the rooster. I have chicken aprons on them, but they might be trying to grow that back in. Duh! Then the protein boost with definitely help!
