Cyst?

Hello!

My Rhode Island Red is about 7 weeks old and today I noticed a yellow pimple like mound on the back of her tail end under the feathers. She doesn't seem to be bothered by it and only picked around it while she was doing her usual cleaning. Online it seems to be a follicle cyst and makes it seem like a trip to the vet is the only option. I plan to call them in the morning but just wanted to hop on here and see if anyone had any experience with this and had any success treating it from home or if it could be something else. She wouldn't let me take a picture of hers so I attached a picture of a similar looking one. Hers is more yellow and white. Thanks in advance!

It's probably the "oil gland" they use to preen themselves, from the description location you've mentioned

I agree it sounds like the oil/preen gland.. but the picture you posted does not look like one.. and indeed resembles more of a cyst.. can you find the oil gland to rule that out?
