I'll just add one thing: My old coop, 6x6 different place had no poop board and I changed out the bedding twice a year.
Now have a new place and new coop 8x10 I have a poop board and hoping to do that once a year. I only built it last fall so too early to tell yet, but after cleaning the poop board every other day, it showed me just how much poop must have been in the shavings after 6 months.
BTW, I used bales of pine shavings from the co-op, probably a good 6" deep
