Im about to build a henhouse together with a couple whofRms my land.
We like the idea oc deep litter ( on bare ground for best composinv action.
Ithink this would require a deep and or wide barrier oof good mesh aroud the perimetr of the house (coop).
I have two questions, one is;any on- ground deep litter folk out there care to share their thoughts?
And secondly, the guy of the group says he doesnt think critters will dig under to predate because the soil is fairlydense clay. PesonallyI think thats nonsense. Am I wrong?
my cats do catch moles. If they can dig here, coulnt a skunk?
We do have coyotes around sometimes, wouldnt theydig into a coop if they wantedchicken?
Okay, that was 3questions:)

Deep litter in the coop works well.

Sand in the run works well.

Lay or bury wire fencing around the perimeter fence and attach it to the bottom of the perimeter fence. That will prevent digging.

Predators are certainly able to dig through the clay, if supper is in the offing on the other side.
