Derperella, the (weird) Faverolles, & Friends

Pics
I got a sweet little pullet Friday, probably 3-4 months old. My flock accepted her well...but it's always stressful in a new place, so I've been giving her some space..... Today she came to get treats from my hand (monkey see - monkey do!) and I looked into her face straight on. Her beak is a bit askew on her face...just a bit to the right...... I scared the snot out of her as I said Oh! Derp! and cracked up!!

Nambroth: Thank you so much for sharing Derperella with us!

Haha!! How funny!!

The weather here has been slosh and mud. My girls are looking pretty sad lately! Ick. We usually have snow by now...
Adding in the shorter days and I haven't had a chance to get too many photos. Do you guys want to hear about the other chickens at all or only Derp? They aren't .. uh... special, like Derp, but they are entertaining!

Tough call, I'd like to hear about your other chickens BUT, also how Derperella interacts(stares) at them. Probably need at least a photo of Derp along with the others.Love your stories.

I'd love to hear about the whole flock! Have you ever heard the expression '...there's a little Elvis in everyone...'? Now, I can't speak for everyone's chickens, but as for mine: I believe that coloring, age, breed aside.....there's a little Derp in all of them.....

I'd love to get to know Derp's friends!

And I also enjoy your writing. You should really consider doing a book about Derp .... and her friends.

Had a scare this morning. I was just about to let a few of the well behaved girls (including Derp) out for some supervised ranging when the neighbor's dog came blowing through. When I confronted the dog to 'get home' I was met with aggression. I know dogs well enough to know how to react, so I ended up escorting it back to the property of the owners, though the dog was 'telling' me that if I tried to put hand on a collar to secure her that I'd get bit. SIGH. I hate this... I will have to talk to the neighbors this afternoon. This has been an ongoing problem and it kills me because I like to be friendly with my neighbors! I really don't want to escalate it but at the same time, it's not okay.

Anyhow, I don't want this to turn into a predator control thread, so let's have a few photos!

Introducing (once again), Coho! She is also a Salmon Faverolles, and was hatched at the same time and place as Derperella. She's closer to what a SF should look like, though her beard is smutty, and her foot feathering is not very good. Still, she is a sweet chicken, and quirky (are all favs quirky??).

Here she is at 91 days old, with her favorite person... the Fud Lady's husband:

She is preening him. It's fantastically cute.

Oh be real careful....a dog is what killed Barbara the barred rock. You need be real, real tough, because I hate to see that happen Derp.

Hmm fud lady's husband has cute dimples and looks like Harry Potter but, much better looking. I'm sure I wouldn't mind seeing more photos and stories about him. Ouch, I think Coho is pulling his hair too hard.

Since the neighbors dog doesn't want to touched maybe you should use a cattle prod to encourage her to go home.
