Hello, I am wondering if I need a permit or something to sell chicks I hatch in my area? I am not worried about doing it once, but if I decided I wanted to do it as a small income, plus it would be fun, then do I need a legal permit or something? Mostly, because I REALLY want to hatch my own chicks! It sounds like so much fun, but I don't need or have enough space of more chickens, or ducks. If I do need something special, I might just do it once, sell them to friends in my area, and call that good, but if I don't, then I might do it more often. Thanks for the info! Avery

Poultry laws vary state to state. I would start by looking at your state department of agriculture website. It should outline all applicable laws and any necessary permit paperwork. Additionally there are local laws for operating a home based business.

Thanks! I looked it up and got something about the Washington state poultry permit things. So I found this, but it is mostly talking about if I wanted to process, or slaughter poultry as a business, which I defenetly don't want to do. Does this apply to selling poultry too? I can keep digging, too, just wondering what you think! Heres the link- https://agr.wa.gov/departments/food-safety/food-safety/special-poultry-permit
