Do I put the entire edible flower, weed, etc. into the deep litter coop?

When using the deep litter method, can I put the entire flower into the coop, stem and all? Do they eat the stem? Do I put the pulled yard weeds and cut grass into the coop as is, or do i have to chop them? When I put seedless grapes in the coop do I throw in stem and all? They DO have free choice access to grit.

Thanks.

If your chickens ingest long pieces of grass it can cause impacted crop. Be cautious- many do use hay and straw in the coops but if you are hand-pulling weeds that are kind of shorter they may be tempted to eat them whole and in large quantities.

I give grass clippings from the lawn mower.

I throw grapes on the stem and/or off the stem. They eat them and love them!

Hope this helps!!
