Does Purina do any research on their feeds?

It would be nice to have proof of research other than 'just try it out.' The last time a Purina expert commented, I suggested that they publish some of their findings....upon their response, I did a Google search and not a single study was found regarding poultry feeding and/or nutrition. Public access to reports might be nice for some....

i have to agree if i cant find a bunch of people putting up reviews and comments saying what they found. then to me its all company propaganda, so you want people to try why don't you sponsor some reliable people that love their chickens and will give a honest truth on what it did and didn't do. i know i spoil my chickens and they produce better then my other friends that have chickens

I agree with the other people posting. What REAL studies and research does Purina do?
Also, why do we have to buy a separate feed for non GMO's in the ingredients?

Why not make ALL of your food without using GMO's, which have never been proven to be safe to animal or human. Please don't answer with some soundbyte. A real answer would be appreciated.

It's all about economics....
For them it's not efficient to have all their ingredients be non-GMO, there's no profit to it. But, for them, it's got to have a large profit margin.

I completely agree Morgan. I just wanted to see if they would publicly address this issue.

Start looking at most food for human consumption and you'll see how most of the companies share

in the same greed factor. It's ironic, the more nature oriented they claim to be, with pretty pictures of healthy food, the more crap they usually add to the ingredients. That's just my humble opinion.

I think the only response you will get is a reiteration of the post on February 23. It's great that they can say all these things but a little bit of proof would be nice.

Very true. It reminds me of many politicians, a lot of fluff is given as their answer, but never any real facts

I have used Purina since the time I started raising my flock. Now I am no chicken expert, but observing the growth, appearance and health of my birds, is great compared to other threads i have seen here at Backyard chickens. I find it is a great brand at a valued price. Just my opinion.

Thank you for your reply blairctchickens but the fact that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA); the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA); and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is overseeing the GMO's makes me all the more distrusting, in my humble opinion. Who funds these very groups? Follow the money....

This does not apply to chicken, as chickens and chicken meat are not genetically modified."


If they are eating GMO's, then they and whoever consumes either their eggs, or meat is still consuming GMO's, as it is in their feed. I've seen plants ridiculously tall that appeared to be healthy, but they're simply "frankenfoods" for less than a better name. I for one, don't want to trust my chickens health or my own for that matter, simply by observing their growth or immediate health. Cancer and side effects from these artificial ingredients, manufactured in a laboratory can take decades to show up. Why subject anything or anyone you care about to being a guinea pig, all for the sake of large companies profits?

Simply put, why did they hide it all these years, if it was safe?

I'm not taking risks. It's up to you whether you wish to.
