Does their skin get red when molting?

Sorry, I don't have a picture yet...the chicken who has this does not like to be handled. One of my chickens, a black sex link, is missing feathers on her bottom, below her vent, and the skin looks red and irritated in places. No bleeding or sores. The feather loss looks just like when the others molted, and she hadn't molted yet. She is top chicken and the others do not peck at her. I checked for lice and mites and found nothing. Her skin is clean, just red where the feathers are coming out. Normal?
