Dream will soon come true.

I've always lived in cities where backyard chickens were banned, or was living in apartments. My boyfriend and I are in the process of purchasing a house 7 hours up North and I will be able to finally legal own some hens!!

I'm really excited to start building the coop and to get my hens, because, let's be honest. Chickens are the cutest animals ever.
:old :frow :welcome

We are looking in both ON and QC- QC has the $8 a day daycare and even though property taxes are higher it is better financially with the daycare. But I am immigrating from the US to Canada and the government is saying that Quebec has their own immigration system I would need to apply separately to so we might have to move to Ontario for a while before we can move back to Quebec. The French can be a challenge, I am using Rocket French which helps. There is also some free French classes in the south of Quebec which I might take when Keith goes to daycare next fall. Good idea with insulating and diapers! I might do something like that with my hens when the weather gets really bad.
Well, welcome to Canada. Your daycare is cheap but I personally love Ontario better, but that might be because I'm born here. I guess cheap daycare but expensive property tax kind of evens out.

Thanks! We prefer Ontario too but although property tax is higher in Quebec the property themselves are cheaper. Eventually we hope to move back to Ontario after daycare is no longer needed because then it would be more costly.

I don't know if you've seen this but this is a website that shows 3 Buff Orp breeders in Ontario:

she's part of a mixed flock but they might let her go if you ask, they are 8 hours from you though

also in Owen Sound, 8 Buff orpington pullets https://www.kijiji.ca/v-livestock/o...ts/1391157337?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true

There are orpingtons in Quebec, buff and chocolate, and some buff orp/ameraucana crosses but they are 9-10 hours driving from you

Briarwood Poultry in Alberta ships but I only see rarer colours on their website.
