Hi everybody.

Our rescue chicken Fluffy came in a terrible state to us: mites, overgrown beak, nails like talons and a rock hard lump of dropping was bending one toe back. She ran (after 3 month in an aviary) when anybody came near her but all that has changed for the better - I call her even my cuddle bug :).

But Fluffy has still very dry feet and legs - she is a silky with a chicken head.... laughing out loud. So her legs are very short but her feet look rough and sort of cracked. Our other 5 chicken don't have this problem.

Is there anything you can recommend we do for her?

Thanks for your input and have a great festive season :)

Fluffy might be suffering from scaly leg mites, and since she came to you after being neglected, it's a strong possibility. If you post a photo of her legs and feet, we can tell you for sure.

The treatment is simple. After soaking her legs and feet in warm Epsom salts and gently scrubbing the loose debris from her scales, slather castor oil or Vaseline all over her legs and feet and turn her loose. The oil will smother the mites.
