Duck pond and house sunlight requirements

Starting out as a new duck owner I am wondering if a pond must be in direct sunlight or if it can be in shade? I will be building a biofilter pond and duck run inspired from the many great ideas and suggestions on this forum but haven't seen much about light requirements. Thanks! For the record, this is in northern Florida, so harsh winter conditions are not a concern.

I am between Mobile and Pensacola. My pond is in part sun, part shade, half under a tree.
It's green, but it works well. We clean it out 1-2x a year.
