1 year old, female, East Indies Duck, is starting to feel lighter/thinner than sister. She seems to have an upper respiratory infection. Her eyes started with foam, but have progressed to a clear discharge, which seems to hardened around eyes. She doesn’t seem to be eating, still drinking throughout the day. Not sure what her poop looks like.
I have been caving her at night to keep my large male away from her. And caging him during the night to give her some freedom. My other females haven’t shown any symptoms.
I have been rinsing her eyes with saline and administering drops of Polysporn Eye drops a few times a day.

I am looking for help in curing it at home, vet will be a last resort if possible. I don’t know how to remove the hardened clear discharge. Can I use Veterycin spray? Pictures included. Bedding has become stuck in the hardened discharge.

I am no expert on ducks, so I cannot offer the help you are looking for; however, I will tell you to keep her away from the flock if possible.

Just a few questions to possibly help others with more experience:

1. Is the fluid sticky? You said it may be hardened around the eye.

2. Is there and odd sounds being made by the hen (gurgling/sneezing)?

3. Is she eating and loosing weight or not eating much?

4. Are her nostrils clear?

5. Is she laying (if call ducks lay this late in the year or if she is old enough)?

It does seem to be sticky, and she does seem to be gurgling. She isn’t eating very much, if at all. I have been rinsing them with saline. She has stopped laying.

Okay, my advice is just to keep her separated and perilla somebody more helpful will chime in. Hope she gets better!
