First of the baby chicks under the broodies hatched last Saturday afternoon. The broodies have been sitting the remaining eggs at night, but not much in the daytime, so I pulled them this morning figuring they were either not fertile or dead in some way.
ok now I'm in trouble, the 6 eggs are fertile, I pulled them this morning, candled all 6 and before putting in the trash I gently cracked one and peeked, and it is occupied and that chick is moving. anyone done a C section on chickens? I put all 6 in a bowl in my greenhouse, hot and humid, closest thing I have to an incubator. at 6 days past the first hatch out, and since I got the rooster out 3 weeks ago, they are due to hatch today. Do I put them, including the one I cracked open, back in with the hens? Or keep them in the greenhouse on my seed sprouting mat which heats very gently?
