A couple of months ago, one of my RIR's feathers began to look dull and seemed almost "sticky." Shortly after that, her bum turned very red and hot, and became very rounded. I did all that I typically do with my hens (I have 24 of them) to help her. She seemed to do some better for a while.
I do not think she is laying now, and in fact, our egg numbers have decreased drastically - out of 17 of age layers, we're getting only 6-8 eggs/day. One of our other RIR also now has dull feathers. I have also noticed that a few of my girls have lost their feathers around their head - so their whole head looks the same skin as their comb.
Is there something (perhaps a parasite) that I'm missing?
